Y and Z

Yikes! It slipped past midnight on our way home from the movies (we went to see Fast Five. It was awesome.), so I am going to combine Y and Z into one post.

The Hubby always says 'Yikes!' and then giggles because he thinks that he is imitating Scooby Doo, when in reality he isn't. Scooby says 'Zoinks!' and no matter how many times i tell him that, he stills says, 'whatever, I like Yikes! better'.

Thank yibus for for visiting! I am off to get some zzzz'z.

unfinished fanart painting for Xlormp
X is for Xlormp. Never heard of Xlormp? I feel bad for you, you should check it out.
What is Xlormp? Xlormp is the lead character in the funniest parody of the Twilight series, The Most Popular Book in the Whole World by Jessica Wagstrom. It originated on Live Journal, but is now available in print.

Why bring it up now, almost three years after it originally came up? Good question, imaginary blog reader. It's because I have stumbled up another book that deserves the same attention as Twilight does. You may recall (or maybe you don't, I didn't look to see if any one read that particular post) that I mentioned reading a new book called Tiger's Curse that I suspected had the romantic male lead role filled by a tiger. Well, I was correct. I am about halfway through  now, and my fears have been confirmed. It does indeed fit in the same category as Twilight, as in, could have been better written, gloomy main character (what is with these girls from the pacific northwest writing depressing girls into their books? It's not as if there are no happy, exuberant people that come from there[Exhibit A: The Watery Tart] [Exhibit B:(actually I only know one person from there)], animals become hunky men, and of course, that desperate need for sappy sweet love.

I didn't want to poke fun at tiger's curse because I kinda like it, and well, how would you feel if it was your first book and some random blogger started prodding it?

Today at work we whitewashed. I am pretty wiped out from all the cleaning and hauling of junk out of the barn, and then back in. *sigh*

Tomorrow won't be much better. Plans have been made for washing the cows.

Whatever, I am going to bed.

Well I intended to do a comparison between Watercolors and Acrylics, but I don't have the ambition anymore. My obsessive side has drifted away from the easel and into the dream space that is reading time, so unless I have a sudden burst of inspiration that just HAS to be painted, my brushes will most likely go back into a box until next winter after I have cycled through the reading, fishing, writing, sketching phases that is my life cycle.

So we have time versus hobby, i guess that vaguely fits with the theme, no?

Uhhmm, riiiight, just where is this book going?
I picked up a book at the store the other day and am up to chapter five. The book is tiger's curse by Colleen Houck. According to the back cover "...a sweet romance and heart pounding adventure....", as far as I can tell, the romantic male character is to be filled by a tiger. So far strange, but alright I guess.

Uh Oh!
I spent a few hours working outside today in a t-shirt and got a nice little sunburn. I guess I'm going to have get out the sunblock now that the weather is nice again.

 Minutes ago I received a phone call from my husband that was pretty funny. Here is a record of it;

[Me] hello?
[hubby] I was scraping shit and a cow snuck up behind me and bit me on the ass

[hubby] yeah, she bit me on the ass. it didn't hurt much though.

[me] *rofl* really, she bit you on the ass!

[hubby] it hurt a little bit, but not now.

[me] *dies laughing*

[hubby] byebye then *click*

Scritch is a painting technique where you scrape off a layer of paint to reveal the color underneath. I love doing it, and this is the third one I am posting during the A-Z challenge. The first was on P day, the second was on Q day, but this one is my favorite one.

Rental equipment

The Skid Steer of Doom sprung a leak and became paralyzed last weekend, ,so it had to go to the hospital for repairs.

In the mean time had a rental John Deere 320 that was way too big for the little things we were using it for. On the plus side, though, it took half the usual time to clean the yard since the bucket has an extra two feet of width.

The Skid Steer of Doom is happily home now, and the rented one has gone back to where it came from.

Question for Q day

The Question: Does my blog page take too long to load for anyone? I know it takes a while for my computer since I still have dial-up, but I am wondering if the RedBubble slide show, plus all the links on the side are slowing things down or not.

And also: Some quality time.

I showed this to my hubby and asked him if he liked it, and said "I don't get it," but then he goes "Oh, ooh, a man and a lady making out, naughty!" haha, he cracks me up.

Pallet Knife Painting

I have been playing with my pallet knives again and came up with this lovely painting. I basically painted the canvas board black, let it dry, put on a swath of white, and then while it was still wet scratched the out line. I thought it looked pretty cool then, but then I made a boo-boo while painting something else, and dripped paint on it from something else. So I spread it around and used the flat side of my big knife to scrape it in good, added some different colors and blended them together. I like it! The pallet knife is my new favorite tool for painting!

I decided today's post would be optional. I compromised, and posted this. Hope everyone enjoyed all those crazy O posts today, covering the orangutans, oranges, octopusies, and the Ottoman Empire.

N is for New

I got a new toy! Actually, so did the Hubbers, we each got a kayak while they were on sale so now we can paddle around separately. We have a 12 foot jon boat already, but when we go out together in it when we go camping at Hartman Creek and have to row (gas motors are not allowed) we get a bit cranky since he always likes to stare off into space, leaving all the heavy rowing to me. It gets a bit intense. Hopefully not being confined to the same boat will make being out on the water more enjoyable.

M is for Mess

Painting is messy.

I managed to get a big gob of black paint on the table, stick my arm in it, and spread it all over before noticing it. As you can see, I have a large stack of paintings just hanging out that I'm not sure what to do with. I'm sure I'll get them all up on Etsy sooner or later, thereby clearing up some of my mess.

Lazy Cows

We had hoof trimming today and afterward all the cows went out and laid down far away from the barn.

So they got pedicures and naps, and I ended up exhausted with sore feet.

So I suppose that when most people go on vacation to Italy they want to go see the sights, all of the magnificent art, visit the historic locations, and generally go go go the whole time. Not me, though we did do a lot of that while there, we also spent quality time just hanging out with family and knitting.

Yup, knitting! I went to Italy and learned how to knit, kinda like how I went to college and learned how to crotchet. I haven't done much lately, but I have managed to make two scarves (only one is finished) and a hat.

Pardon the hiccup. I had all day to post about h, but I slacked, and then I went to do evening chores and we had a ridiculous time finishing chores due to a bunch of hiccups with a new calf. The calf wasn't even supposed to be born yet according to the records we received from the heifer raiser so the mother was still with the dry cows, which of course led to her not having steamed up properly, and lacking in milk. Then  we were out of the back up supply of colostrum, and after we got some, the calf didn't want to eat it. Huh. Little jerk.

Then there were the feed hiccups, and an hour spent repairing, and then re-repairing the cable to the feed bunk. Yup. lots of hiccups tonight.

See you Monday!

I had an awful time thinking of something to write about since there are so many ways to go with it; gnomes, giraffes, gourmet food (as in my awesome stroganaff I made last night), Gossip ('He who gossips to you will gossip of you'), but none seemed to  fit right.

But then I remembered Gnome Gerome, a silly little series of poems and a story that I wrote three years ago and posted on HPANA's fanfiction forum.

Here they are:

Gnome Gerome
nibbled mums bum
now he's a piddle!

Gnome Gerome
nibbled Molly's Middle,
Now he's her pillow!

Gnome Gerome
tickled a toad,
now he's alone.

Gnome Gerome
nibbled his middle
and giggled!

Gnome Gerome
Wiggled his middle
and giggled!

Flights of Fancy

So what happens when I don't really know what to paint, and just sorta start putting random colors down? Fantastical animals emerge!

'E' day was supposed to be Etsy, but I kinda already did that the other day, so I don't know what to talk about today, except to say that I am slowly adding items for sale, and that I have added an Etsy page to my blog with a handy-dandy widget that shows what is available and a link right to my shop! How exciting!
I hope everyone is having an enjoyable A to Z experience!

C is for Communication (See me squirm)

Oh no, what have I done!? This is the thought that I have each time I join in on a group activity like bloghops, or month long daily blog-posting and the comments start appearing. An uneasiness forms as I try to think of a way to respond to the first comment, but then another shows up and it gets worse, so I put it off for a while. What is this uneasiness? Its my social retardation acting up again.

Conversations are not my thing
You see, I am almost entirely incapable of carrying on a conversation with another human being for longer than a minute. I suck at it. One time I was at a party talking to a guy from my graduation class, and after the initial 'hey, hows it going, what'cha been up to?' phase of the conversation, he actually pointed out to me that, 'hey, now it's your turn to say something'. Yeah, I'm that bad. I don't like parties much for just that reason (the inevitable conversations, not his observation on my social skill).

While it is less intense in writing, I still find it difficult finding the right thing to type in response to comments. I think it has a lot to do with being a Libra, you know, seeing both sides of things, I tend to flip flop on my stance on things. I will say one thing, a comment makes a good point and I concede, but then along comes another comment that supports my original view, so then I am conflicted by two sides that both seem agreeable.
It is something that I am working on, and blogging is one way for me to improve (or at least develop) some conversation skill.

So please don't think I don't appreciate all the awesome comments you guys are leaving, 'cuz I really do, I love them all!

B is for Beds and Backaches

Beds and Backaches
I bet you are thinking that those two things combined mean that my mattress is uncomfortable, or lumpy, or too small for two people. In fact, my bed is a soft and comfy king size bed that makes me happy when I sleep.

In fact, I'm talking about my parent's new bed that they got today. It was tasked to me to supply the pickup truck to bring their new bed home, and then help heave the thing into the house. Then we assembled it and heaved the old one upstairs, leading to the backache. Why do mattresses have to be so dang heavy and awkward to move around?

(I don't have any bed pictures, well, I do have one, but it contains my hubby and no one wants to see THAT, so enjoy this sexy aligator in her bed!)

A is for Art

I was planning to post a definition of art and then explain why I don't think of myself as an artist. But then I found the definition of art to be really long and inclusive of a lot of things, which I suppose is how it should be.

My idea of art , or what makes an artist, is something that has the deliberate purpose of being pretty, expressing some theme, idea, emotion, or to create a reaction of some kind from the audience. In fact, one of my favorite blog posts of all time comes from Boonie S on the topic of how a specific sculpture is in fact art for that very reason.

For that reason, I am not an artist. I paint to make myself happy, to kill time, or just to get rid of something inside my head.

How do you define art?
